PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHINESE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL(CIS) MISSION AND PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING AND LEARNING.
“Live and Learn” is a proverb both in English and in Chinese(活到老,学到老). It is especially true with our present world, which is changing fast and becoming smaller. As it is changing fast, we must keep up with the changes by learning; as it is becoming smaller, we are in constant contact with different people from different places with different beliefs and cultures. It is our, as well as our children’s, duty to live peacefully in this world by respecting and understanding the other people. To do that, we should have the basic personal characters like compassion, ethics and responsibility. Then you can contribute to your community and the world.
CIS, from the very beginning when children enter the school, creates for them a mimic world with students and teachers from different backgrounds, but all the students learn to communicate with both English and Chinese. While they live, study and play together, they will understand their cultural differences, by reflection and guidance of teachers, they will learn to respect the differences. We especially appreciate the bilingual program and learning the Chinese characters from complicated to simplified, and the IB diploma, which prepares our child for university education. Beside academic learning, sports, arts, community services, pastoral care are important to make our children healthy, multi-talented, compassionate, ethical and responsible.
CIS is surely the most forward-looking and innovative school in Hong Kong. We believe its students will be able to play important roles in the future world.
PLEASE TELL US WHY YOU THINK CHINESE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL(CIS) IS THE RIGHT SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILD.
We think CIS is the right school for Pete(我孩子的名字)r. He has already traveled a lot between mainland China (Shanghai, Beijing) and Hong Kong and noticed the differences between the cities. He speaks Mandarin with parents, Cantonese with his classmates in Victoria Kindergarten(上午就读的幼儿园), English with our helper and his classmates in Woodland Pre-schoo(下午就读的幼儿园)(注明:香港的幼儿园都是半日制,没有全日制)l, and Shanghai Dialect with grandparents. And he is already curious why he and his friends and relatives have different nationalities.
From the parents’ viewpoint, we think that mainland China is now starting to open to the outside world, by the time Peter grows up, China will be merged much more into international society. As a Chinese, wherever he is as a grown-up, his future will be a link between China and the international world. That’s why we bring him to Hong Kong , an international city, for education. To our disappointment, in Hong Kong, we find no school to offer the education we desired until we are told by friends to visit CIS..
