希礼在欧洲游历三年后，第一次出现在情窦初开的思嘉面前，是以这个形象出镜的：

意思是说，希礼这小伙子啊，骑马打牌都是最优秀的之一，就连喝酒，以能喝闻名的塔尔顿一家都不在话下。
这简直是高中时候那个能三步上篮然后掀起球衣擦汗一回头一个暖死人的微笑的隔壁班长嘛！最重要的是，人家篮球桌球卡拉OK样样精通，却从来不把这些小把戏放在心上：

这话说的太漂亮了！可谓男神拒绝迷妹的典范。最重要的是，他说的这些都是事实，也是真心的。但是在思嘉能够理解的范围内，他并不是“不爱她”。
思嘉问希礼他是否爱媚兰，希礼不置可否：
"She is like me, part of my blood, and we understand each other."
他娶媚兰，不是因为他爱她，而是因为他们相像，他们互相理解。这也是真的，但是在思嘉能够理解的范围内，他不爱媚兰。
当思嘉问希礼他到底是否在乎她，希礼是这么说的：

在《飘》里面，卫希礼对郝思嘉的感情是一段扑朔迷离的公案。希礼在娶妻之前就对思嘉若即若离，曾让too young too simple 的思嘉一度坚定的相信他是爱自己的；即使在另娶他人之后，男神也不时流露出点说不清楚的情愫。所以希礼到底有没有真的爱过思嘉？
希礼最直白的一次真情流露，是在塔拉最艰难的时刻。在战后最萧瑟的冬天，思嘉好不容易保住塔拉不被烧毁，又找来了一家人的口粮，却要眼见塔拉落入对郝家怨恨在心的仇人手里。思嘉去找希礼商量对策，在一片破败的残景中两人拥在一起：
